Pros

Reddit is a company that cares deeply about its users and employees. The benefits are fantastic (base comp is a little low), the interpersonal culture and work-life balance are top-notch. The Slack channels pop off, and people are genuinely friendly to work with, as their basic needs are all met. The product is also very recognizable and noteworthy, with small teams having a big impact (without compromising a lot on work-life balance).

Cons

Leadership is just bad at business. There's a real lack of accountability for leaders, and for them growing or leveling up their teams.

Every meeting, all the way up to exec, seems to be run by "Top 3 things I was asked about this week." This leads to a culture of promotions for friends or buddies, often Director+ taking credit for their teams' work and getting promoted, but not promoting their teams. It seems like leadership is too full of people hiding from accountability, and they're all doing it together. We had a famous email where leaders just circle-congratulated each other.

Advice to Management

Start remembering the human who reports to you, instead of remembering who you had over for BBQ on Sunday.
