Software Engineer Interview Experience - Incline Village, Nevada

Process

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks.

TL;DR: The hiring strategy of Ridgeline is to waste everyone involved's time until you end up calling them several times in frustration, or they send you a non-descript email indicating the process is over. Software Engineers STAY AWAY - they will waste your time, or try to underpay you.

This company has one of THE most time consuming processes for a company that, for all intents and purposes is a nobody in this industry right now. It starts with:

  • Two non technical phone screens
  • A tech screen on zoom
  • A full day of interviews
  • Even after that there are more phone interviews with managers

The interviews themselves are fine, pretty easy technical questions and basic behavioral. But they will keep you waiting afterwards. Probably the least organized and humiliating process of having to chase down the recruiter and get feedback.

At first I was told that the interview went really well (I had crushed the technicals, I knew for sure) and that we'd move towards an offer early the next week. I wait another week and I again chase down the recruiter for updates; this time she says "you did well and feedback was all positive, but we don't think you're interested enough in Ridgeline," an absolutely ridiculous and frankly unfounded statement to make.

Are they so afraid I'll turn down their offer or negotiate that they won't even make one? I feel like something else was up. Either way, if you're a software engineer don't bother going through this slog. If you're qualified, you'll likely do well but they'll lead you on and pull the rug out from under you.

Even if they make an offer, based on one salary discussion I had with a manager, a bulk of the compensation will be in equity for a company of questionable worth. Make sure not to ask for too much, or they will consider you as "fishing" and reject you.
