Firmware Engineer Interview Experience - Irvine, California

Process

I applied online through their Careers page and was contacted by an HR representative a few days later to have a phone screen in early November. They asked about my professional experience and my resume, and it went well enough that they wanted me to come in for an on-site interview about two weeks later.

The on-site interview was 3.5 hours long and consisted of four rounds: one 2:1 interview and three 1:1 interviews.

In the first round, two of their engineers asked me technical questions regarding what occurs with respect to the program stack when a function is called. They then had me solve two LeetCode Easy problems (listed below), working on their laptops via the LeetCode website.

  • I was able to get through the first LeetCode problem fairly quickly.
  • I only had 10 minutes to try and solve the second one, so I was unable to finish it in time.

The subsequent rounds were less technical, focusing primarily on my experience with specific tools or frameworks, such as AUTOSAR. One round involved behavioral questions about how I would react in certain situations.

They also gave me a short tour of the Irvine facility, which resembled a massive version of an automotive lab found at a university. I was honestly impressed with the work environment.

Overall, I felt good about my performance during the interview, but unfortunately, they did not extend an offer and sent me a rejection email two days after my on-site visit.

However, my experience with them was positive, and I would be happy to interview with them again in the future.
