Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Canada

Process

Absolute garbage. The interview process consists of two coding interviews, one system design interview, and one project deep dive.

I booked a coding interview two weeks in advance. At 12 AM on the day of the interview, I received an email asking me to reschedule. There were almost no slots available, so I shifted my schedule to accommodate. The recruiter and email instructions explicitly stated that the interviews were language-agnostic and that I could answer in any language I preferred.

During the 50-minute interview, the first five minutes were spent going back and forth about my experience. It turned out that the online editor and test cases were prepared for a few languages, none of which was the one I selected. The online editor would not display the question beside the code, forcing me to constantly flip back and forth. Every time the interviewer tried to view the question while I was editing my code, it would hide my code. I spent five minutes trying to figure out why the online editor was highlighting syntax issues that weren't actual issues. I had to jump to a different online editor and run my code to confirm it was right. It turned out my syntax was fine; the editor just sucked.

A minor implementation issue arose, which I fixed within one minute. The implementation passed the base test case.

I received a generic rejection the next day, explaining that it was company policy not to provide feedback.

An interview was cancelled on short notice. The online editor they provided had issues. After providing a correct implementation of the code, I received only a generic rejection with no feedback. Thanks for wasting my time.
