Changing my summer internship experience

Pros

At its size, Robinhood cannot waste a single employee, including interns. I found myself thrown in the middle of the company's large projects for the summer.

This meant adding support for trading four new cryptocurrencies, which only made up half of my internship! The rest was filled with other equally high-impact work. In the past, my summer internships usually involved working on a small, sandboxed project that no full-time employee wanted to do, so they would save it for an intern.

At Robinhood, I truly felt like I was being utilized to my full potential.

In short, some pros:

  • Pays well
  • Great people that you meet through cross-functional work
  • Tons of responsibility, even as an intern
  • Industry standard for development practices/technologies
  • Health benefits
  • Commuting benefits
  • Motivated coworkers and visionary leadership
  • Small, intimate size
  • Dog-friendly workplace!
Cons

The only thing that even comes to mind since the company is still a small startup:

  • No volunteer time off
