Process

Step 1: Phone Screening with Recruiter

Initial phone call with recruiter centered around behavioral and background questions.

Step 2: Take-Home Assessment

The second piece of the process was building a trivial backend through a test assessment vendor. Unfortunately, this step was particularly frustrating for several reasons:

  • The assessment would automatically fail if the project was not accessible via a URL.
  • The default project provided by the vendor was not accessible via the URL. Based on the vendor's notes, this was not by design.
  • Despite following the vendor's guidance on making the project accessible, I was unable to resolve the issue.

Step 3: Technical and Behavioral Interview with Team

  • Meeting with four Sr. Engineers to do a final round of tech and behavior questions.

Overall, I was unhappy with the take-home assessment. The use of Visual Studio Code on a Linux VM running a Docker instance felt unrealistic and led to technical challenges that seemed unrelated to day-to-day requirements.
