The software engineering interview process was fairly standard, with the exception of an antiquated aptitude test. This test, which feels like it belongs in the 90s, does not reflect well on the company's image.
However, what truly put me off of Rokt were the interviewers. I sensed a power dynamic between them, as if there was an explicit hierarchy they were expected to follow. The interviewer who seemed to be at the top of this hierarchy was extremely unprofessional.
Within the first few minutes, I was spoken to with a very condescending attitude. I was asked a few vague and overall poor interview questions, only to be cut off mid-sentence. A couple of the questions appeared to be attempts to extract information from my experience so the interviewer could improve their own job performance.
What sealed the deal for me was the live coding exercise. They use standard LeetCode problems. The same interviewer laughed whenever I made a mistake, argued when I pointed out an error in their question, and was overall hostile. I suspect they were intimidated by my abilities.
Overall, I got the impression that Rokt has a poor culture and hires sub-par individuals. I would guess that title inflation is also present, as there was nothing senior about my “senior” interviewers.
