Short answer: Dishonest and ego-inflated culture and process, possibly a reflection of their marketing mindset.
Long answer: The first coding round is a standard screening and is pretty easy. The first part of the onsite round is another coding interview for one hour, with difficulty increasing gradually, making it similar to easy to medium LeetCode problems. Following that, there is a 1.5-hour system design round. The questions are standard and unremarkable.
Interviewers exhibited clear communication issues and were not fluent in English, which might lead to them not fully understanding many of your technical points. The interviews often involved heads-down typing, interspersed with unnecessarily aggressive and behaviorally rude comments, which certainly doesn't signal a good culture. They asked about my previous projects, requested I design a system based on basic screenshots, and included behavioral and management style questions.
After a couple of days, they provided disrespectful comments, questioning the depth of my technical knowledge rather than accepting that we were not a cultural match in terms of leadership style and philosophy. It's quite pathetic that they try so hard to portray a false image of their engineering and culture. They pretend to have a high bar, yet the majority of their employees have only worked at Rokt after immigrating to Australia or starting their careers. They clearly have a dishonest and biased process, which is part of the larger cultural issues mentioned in other reviews.
The interview process is not designed around a technical capability rubric; it's mostly based on the personal opinions of higher-rank employees or leadership. Overall, my recommendation is to stop wasting your time. You don't even learn anything by going through their process, so just walk away, as there are countless great companies out there.
Their management style appears very traditional, toxic, and extremely top-down. This could be the real reason behind the numerous reviews stating they actively try to disrespect and waste the time of engineers or leaders who advocate for more modern management approaches and psychological safety.
