Skilled Engineering, Wheels Reinvented
Engineer-style company, very skilled at squeezing vendors. The vendors working with Roku have it tough.
I think most engineers at Roku have a passion for coding.
We spend a lot of time reinventing the wheel—Roku’s IPC, LMK, and so on.
Because I prefer open-source solutions, sometimes I wonder: Are these engineers’ designs really as battle-tested as open-source projects that have gone through countless iterations?
Do they truly understand these systems, or are they just trying to earn some credit in front of their managers?
I really like our boss — they are highly capable and very friendly.
I hope the company can find a way to become profitable.
