Engineering Interview Experience - United States

Process

I was asked to go onsite for an intern interview. The university recruiting event took a day and involved around 30 students. There were no tech questions – are you kidding me?

They spent most of the time splitting students into groups for group exercises and checking who talked the most during the process.

They also assigned us to different groups and asked us to do presentations on imaginary products. Then, interviewers asked questions about our products. One interviewer focused on how our product might not make customers happy. OMG, I am not here for a sales position.

I am very curious what on earth they were doing. How could they come up with such stupid onsite activities for a software engineering major student?

I have other interviews with Google and Facebook, so that day looked like a waste of time.

If the HR or hiring manager could see my post, I just want to ask one thing: you ask nothing about tech questions for a CS major student but focus on all these other group "stupid things." So, are you wanting to hire someone who talks a lot but knows little about coding?

Before the interview, I had a good impression of this company. After the interview, I feel very disappointed and don't think it's a place for anyone with a passion for technology.

Questions

The most ridiculous and stupid interview I have ever experienced.

They are not looking for a tech person; they are looking for a salesperson who could talk a lot to make them happy.
