I had a terrible HR experience as an intern. A couple of weeks into my internship, I realized I was getting underpaid significantly compared to other interns with less experience in the same role. I raised an issue with HR (which is based in the Philippines, so there was always a one-day delay in replies), and they basically told me tough luck and did not accept my feedback or listen to my concerns. I brought this up with my manager, and she gave me a pay raise. She has spoken to higher-ups about my concerns, but these issues will take many intern cycles for discussion before they are resolved.

Was not a fan of the proprietary frameworks I worked on.

Keep your HR local and listen to the concerns of your workers (even interns!). Adjust your intern pay based on experience and not just year level, or base it off of credits completed instead of year level.
