SAP still has good company values, and there are a lot of benefits. Most teams offer flexible working times. Taking responsibility for your family is valued and accepted at SAP.
The chances of getting promoted are very little and highly depend on luck, not so much on your personal performance. For example, a Junior Developer in a team of Seniors can make a good career because the Seniors generate a lot of promotion budget, making it easy to promote the junior. The same person in another team might not be promoted, although performing the same. Chances to move beyond Senior level are very little, and within the Senior level, the salary raises have been minimal. Overall, the compensation is far too low compared to the market. Recent decisions by the higher management have also caused a loss of trust, and I feel that there is a new culture of doing the bare minimum because there is no reward for going above and beyond.
Make sure that performers are sufficiently rewarded and make sure that entire high-performing teams have a fair chance to get promoted.
