The interview process involved several stages:

• A phone screen.
• An onsite HR interview and a technical interview.
• An "interview day" which included four technical interviews with team leads, lunch with two other analysts, and a tour with HR.
• Finally, an interview with the CTO.

Everyone I spoke with was very smart, without any BS or buzzwords.

Shopify claims they don't believe in asking standard interview questions, such as "What are your weaknesses?" or "Tell me how map-reduce works." Instead, they prefer interviews to be a conversation about the company and the applicant. This was exactly how I felt it went, and I thought it was awesome. I can talk for hours about work, and this approach also gave me a chance to ask tons of questions and learn a lot more about the company and the area I was applying to.

The process likely took longer than usual due to my vacation and the vacations of others during the application period.
