I applied on their website in February. About two weeks later, I received an email from the HR person with an invitation for a technical test. You could book the interview on a calendar; the dates to choose were flexible.
The day of the interview arrived. When the call first started, the interviewer went straight to explaining what the technical test was about – no "hello," "how are you?" or any small talk to make the atmosphere more relaxed or comfortable before getting down to business.
The test involved an algorithm that needed to be sorted according to a piece of data with only strings. It wasn't particularly difficult, and you had the option to use Google for help. I managed to come up with a solution, but I was a bit nervous and didn't show a lot of confidence in some moments. The interviewer didn't show any sympathy or support while that was happening. As you know, coding in front of someone under interview pressure, and doing so within a browser tool that pretends to be a code editor but is clearly less effective, can really make you appear more insecure and slower than in a real job.
The interviewer was probably the least empathetic, charismatic person I have ever encountered in an interview and likely the most intimidating. It really felt like she wasn't enjoying the call at all and wanted to finish it as soon as possible. It makes you wonder how people like this can be decision-makers when it comes to hiring, regardless of their technical knowledge.
If this person got hired by the company, to me, it shows that Spotify's hiring process has some flaws. They don't even ask the candidate to provide feedback on their experience; they assume it's correct.
Thank God Glassdoor exists.
No questions were asked about me, my experience, or anything else.
