Looking at various other reviews, you will probably realize that Shopify interviews aren't particularly hard, and from my experience, that's true. However, that doesn't mean just anyone can get in; it's just a different interviewing style.

They don't have you sit down in front of a desk to start questioning you, hand you a quiz, and ask you to draw or code on a whiteboard. Instead, everything is a discussion and collaboration. This deviates from the traditional interview process of testing for algorithms, data structures, and behavior, etc. Thus, if you're good and competent at your craft, there's no need to solve a gazillion code challenges online or look up company values/history to hone your skills or craft your responses.

On the other hand, the interview consists of several rounds of talking—and lots and lots of talking—with different people, including some whiteboarding and peer programming.

Overall, everyone I've met was extremely nice, and there were no interrogative questions, merely friendly and constructive discussions. But the interview might feel very long given the amount of talking. All the talking will reveal your true self: how you are as a person and how you work normally, not how you dress up to be or how you prepare to work for the interview. You can tell that despite the non-traditional interview style, these folks are very careful with the people they're hiring.
