1-hour technical screen, 1-hour life story.
The technical screen took 15 minutes. It was a super easy question that I solved quickly. I then progressed to the life story, which is an interview with a recruiter where you basically talk about your experience and how you’ve arrived where you are.
I thought the conversation went super well. I had a great rapport with the recruiter, and we easily could have gone for over an hour.
Three days later, I received a generic rejection email. I have no idea why, considering I thought I hadn’t put a foot wrong (and I’ll happily admit when I don’t think I’ve done well).
I think the life story is a way to weed people out based on whatever arbitrary criteria they have. That said, they shouldn’t waste my time and emotional energy. If there’s something about my profile you don’t like, just don’t give me an interview.
