Process

Their coding challenge was complex and really long. It took me about 10 minutes just to read all the requirements and grasp what they wanted – like 2 pages from a book. By the time I finished reading and asked questions, only 45 minutes were left. I wrote a bunch of code and covered most of the parts, but ran out of time.

The complexity, on average, was like a medium problem from LeetCode, except there, the descriptions are usually much shorter and clearer.

The life story portion was okay, but it's hard not to touch upon personal matters, and sometimes, it seemed, they were waiting for those parts.

To summarize, it felt like a waste of time and set false expectations. It's sad how Shopify is moving towards the dark side, handling their interviewing process in a way similar to Amazon, Google, and Microsoft – and not in a good way. From my observation, it's mostly tailored for students and people who haven't really worked with real-world problems but have practiced algorithms.
