Applications Engineer Interview Experience - United States

Process

The CRM manager contacted me about this role on LinkedIn.

The interview process consisted of two parts: a general technical interview and a panel interview.

The first round involved miscellaneous questions. The second round was a five-hour panel that covered LWC, Apex, Design, and administration.

The technical portions were not well-organized and seemed somewhat put together. For instance, I was asked to use a shared Google Doc for all coding, which was unusual.

Additionally, I found that some interviewers were pushy, expecting you to code in their preferred way. If you started explaining and writing code in one manner, they would stop you and direct you toward their approach.

The overall process was not ideal and was on the longer side, which can be problematic when interviewing with multiple companies.

Most people I spoke to were kind, while others seemed disinterested in conducting the interview.

The culture felt average, very niche, and lacked diversity. There wasn't anything particularly interesting or exciting about it. At one point, it was compared to a family, which raised a red flag.

Communication was also poor, as HR sent incorrect information, leading to confusion and issues.

There was also some ghosting by the company and the manager after the final interview.

Lastly, I personally did not find their work to be interesting and already knew I would be looking elsewhere.

Overall, I was not highly invested or interested in the company or role even prior to the process. I only proceeded because of the manager's interest (I wouldn't have considered the company otherwise); moreover, I wanted to see what it was like internally.

For those seeking CRM roles, I recommend looking elsewhere, as there are better companies, cultures, work opportunities, and people that would make your next role an overall better prospect. Additionally, save your time and invest it in a different company that values your time and effort.
