Mechanical Engineering Intern Interview Experience - Hawthorne, California

November 1, 2024
Positive ExperienceNo Response

Process

Two technical interviews were conducted.

The first interview consisted of a series of technical questions, primarily focusing on fluids, heat transfer, and statics. Topics included beam bending (a classic problem), free stream conditions, compressible flow, and convection.

The second interview involved a line-by-line review of my resume. This was followed by additional questions related to fluids and materials that were not covered in the first interview.

The turnaround time was exceptionally fast, with my first interview and the offer occurring approximately one week apart. The interviewers were generally friendly, and while challenging at times, the process was entirely fair.

Questions

Classic beam bending questions, such as:

  • Where is the maximum bending stress in a beam?
  • How do you make a beam bend less?
  • How do you reduce vibrations?
