Principal Engineer Interview Experience - Bastrop, Texas
Process
The interview process begins with a phone screen from HR, followed by a phone screen with a manager and a team member. The HR interview is non-technical, while the manager and team interviews are technical. If selected, you will proceed to an onsite interview. For the onsite portion, you will be asked to give a presentation on a topic of your choosing, and you will even receive feedback on your presentation. The remainder of the onsite interview consists of standard behavioral questions and general discussion. For technical positions, there will be a test that may involve college-level equations.
A lot of Musk companies share a similar culture. Most of the employees are young and eager to prove themselves, which can make them seem a little arrogant. However, this is mostly pride in their accomplishments, often achieved with limited resources and training.

My position is shift work, so without being pressured to do the typical amount of insane SpaceX hours, the trade off is that my schedule shifts around from front half to back half of the week, and from days to nights, making it nearly impossible to have a life outside of work. And of course, for those in the company who are salaried but not on shift work, there is certainly pressure to do nothing but work.
