Software Engineer Interview Experience - Redmond, Washington

Negative ExperienceNo Offer

Process

A recruiter reached out to me, and we had a phone call.

Next, I completed a 2-4 hour coding assessment on an optimization problem.

The subsequent step was a 45-minute phone call where I had to describe a previous project in depth and then answer some coding-related technical questions.

The final step was an on-site interview in Redmond, WA.

  • Tour of the Starlink factory (very cool)
  • A 15-20 slide presentation on a software project. The presentation and Q&A occupied one hour (this took a ton of time to prepare).
  • A 30-minute lunch with the recruiter.
  • A 45-minute system design interview.
  • A 45-minute behavioral interview, including follow-up questions for the presentation.
  • A 45-minute whiteboard coding session.

The negatives:

  • They ghosted me after the final interview instead of informing me I didn't receive an offer. They didn't even respond to my follow-up.
  • The charge for my hotel was supposed to go to SpaceX, but their travel team didn't set it up correctly, so my credit card was charged instead. I am trying to get reimbursed for this $350 charge.
  • I had to spend hours digging up my SAT/ACT/GRE scores and undergraduate GPAs, even though I have been out of school for over 6 years.

They demanded a ton of effort in preparation and interviewing but couldn't spare 5 minutes to send a rejection email. Very disrespectful.

Questions

There was lots of probing into my previous project.
