I am very disappointed in the way I was treated by Stripe. I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter within a week. He was very eager to schedule me for my first interview.

The entire process was virtual. The first round was an hour-long programming question. Within a couple of days, I received feedback that I would be moving forward with the virtual on-site.

The second interview day consisted of five sessions over the period of 8:50 am - 3:00 pm. I took a day off from my current job. My second interviewer clearly checked out five minutes into our hour-long session. He stopped communicating with me even as I continued talking through my process. From the sound of his keyboard, he was working on something else. That was pretty disheartening.

I had a chat with a very personable manager. My fifth session was with yet another engineer who was heavily distracted. At least he had the courtesy to tell me that he was on call and would not be giving me his full attention.

My recruiter promised me that he would get back to me within 48 hours of my virtual on-site and that we would have a phone call to debrief together. I interviewed on a Tuesday and did not hear from him at all until eight days later, when I was rejected via email.

His excuse was that they were all in the middle of performance reviews. Having been on the other side of things, that tells me that some of my interviewers didn't bother to send in their feedback until over a week later. Paired with multiple inattentive interviewers, it's hard for me to feel like I had a fair chance.

After giving them a full day of my time, I wish I had gotten the same respect back from Stripe. If the company culture is that bad that they can't sacrifice 50 minutes to give their full attention to a candidate, maybe I am better off. I also would have appreciated much better communication from the recruiter instead of making me wait for so long when I was promised the opposite.
