Software Developer Interview Experience

Process

The first step was a phone screening. They asked the usual screening questions and also a few more advanced ones.

After that was a technical screening. The questions were about the technologies I use in my current position and how I used them. They seemed really obsessed with talking about REST APIs, so most of the questions might have been about that. There were also a few questions about my preferences for a new position, which were kind of vague. It was scheduled for a half-hour and took the whole time. I thought I did okay in this interview.

The next step was to do a case study (a type of technical assessment) and then go through four interviews. The interviews would be a mix of behavioral and technical questions and would also discuss the case study. Unfortunately, I decided that since I already had a job that I don't have any major problems in, I didn't have the patience to go through the rest of the process.

What kinds of problems do you want to solve in a new job?

What do you do to keep up to date with the latest technologies?

What have you used REST APIs for?

How do you make sure your code works?

How does your code make its way to production?

What are the different kinds of REST APIs that you’ve used?

Let’s say you’re reading a CSV file and you want to delete duplicate rows. Can you come up with a fast algorithm for that?

Do you use any tools that scan your code for defects/vulnerabilities?
