Pros
  • Huge company where you can find opportunities to work with virtually any tech you're interested in.
  • Really great work-life balance (emphasis on taking time to learn; often get reprimanded for working after hours).
  • Great mentorship opportunities as an entry-level developer (huge focus on lead engineers helping L4s; very collaborative culture).
  • More innovative than I expected - does its best to stay at the cutting edge of tech.
  • Great benefits and pay if you're living in Minnesota.
  • As a woman in the field, it's very encouraging to see so many women and BIPOC engineers at all levels of engineering. Target definitely comes through on its promise of caring about diversity and inclusion.
Cons
  • No L4 remote work approval as of 2023. You must be in Minneapolis, even if your team works remotely.
  • Currently (2023/early 2024), the company is struggling to meet pandemic levels of growth. There are no huge layoffs, but you are still seeing very little opportunity for title changes and bonuses.
Advice to Management

Allow people to work remotely!
