Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

This was, without a doubt, the worst interview process I've ever gone through. I first applied through a recruiter. After looking at my resume, he told me that he'd like to set up a time to speak on the phone.

A day later, instead of calling me, he sent me an email. The email stated that the team thought my background and experience were perfect for the role, so he just sent me a coding challenge to do. This was a 4-hour, open-ended challenge.

After submitting it, I did not hear anything for a week. I emailed, then emailed again a few days later. After two weeks, they emailed me back.

In this email, they never once referenced the challenge I completed. In fact, all they said was that my "background" was not a fit for the role. Basically, I was strung along, and I don't think they even read over the challenge that took me four hours to complete.

Questions

Coding challenge. Can't say what it was.
