Pros
  • Opportunity to see cutting-edge technology and manufacturing processes.

  • Gained exposure to multiple teams and learned a lot from experienced engineers.

  • Fast-paced environment that pushes interns to develop technical skills quickly.

Cons
  • Lack of management skills and technical understanding in my team, particularly with project scope and execution expectations.

  • Toxic and overly competitive work environment; little camaraderie or sense of team support.

  • Poor work-life balance; had to attend evening meetings without these hours being counted.

  • Lack of growth and development focus for interns; little to no pathways to full-time roles.

  • Rigid badge-in, badge-out culture that seemed to lack trust in employees.

Advice to Management

Invest more in developing managerial skills for team leaders, and ensure they understand the technical complexities of the projects they assign.

Create clearer paths for intern growth, including the potential for full-time roles, and foster a supportive environment that values employees beyond meeting numbers.

Building a culture of trust and flexibility would greatly enhance the overall experience and retention.
