Pros

Strong support for extended education and career development.

Diversity of products allows for a lot of lateral movement between organizations. This makes for a great place for a young engineer to gain experience fast.

Cons

Political issues common to most large companies prevent advancement in some organizations beyond lower management levels. Large-scale periodic RIFs reduce long-term prospects of some positions, as directed by market analysts, which may not reflect actual business opportunities.

Advice to Management

The tech ladder versus management needs better balancing to be effective.
