Staff Software Engineer Interview Experience - Remote

Process

One hour technical interview with a coding exercise.

Two staff level engineers conducted the interview.

After about 40 minutes discussing my resume and me trying to ask questions about the position, but not getting much in the way of a response, there was a 20-minute coding exercise. During this exercise, I spent about 15 minutes discussing how I would design the code and was left with only 5 minutes to write code.

The interviewers did not engage in much back and forth or discussion and seemed to be just silently waiting for me to finish, except for one point when I asked for feedback. One of the interviewers smirked and just said I had a mistake in the code I had started to write.

At the end of the exercise, I signed off the interview as soon as possible, as it seemed like a situation where the interviewers were hostile, and I got the impression that nothing I did would have resulted in success.
