Pros
  • In-house training regarding products and how-to.
  • Fairly flexible schedule.
  • Independence to work unsupervised.
  • Most employees were a pleasure to work with.
  • Managers took effort to maintain good morale.
  • Transferring to a different store is relatively easy.
Cons
  • Managers supported a "caste" system based on which department a person works in.
  • Employees often socialized with each other instead of helping customers.
  • More knowledgeable employees should be hired.
  • Departments should be staffed with at least one very knowledgeable person or manager.
  • Most managers didn't know much about home improvement; they might have been HR/business majors.
Advice to Management

My suit and judgment for back wages (for a raise that still hadn't been "processed" for several months and several urgings on my part) shouldn't have been justification for firing me. I didn't take it personally and don't think management should have either.
