Management is deaf, dumb, blind, and stupid about who really gets the work done. Managers provide backstabbing references.
Uses an old-fashioned rack-and-stack system for annual reviews and raises. Rewards management better than employees who actually do the work.
The system allows mediocre employees a safe haven while hardworking employees are overloaded.
Too much of a good old boy network; you have to know the right people, wear the right clothing, and be a clone of others in the position.
Get rid of inexperienced and ill-prepared managers that just suck up to their bosses rather than finding out who really gets the work done. Your direct manager can stifle your career if they want to.
