Pros

As a contractor, you get:

  • Hourly pay
  • A reasonable work machine
  • The ability to work-from-home, thanks to COVID-19
Cons
  • Seemingly permanent hiring freezes, despite record-breaking revenue.
  • Overlooked for raises and promotions, despite ownership of mission-critical systems.
  • No equity.
  • No overtime pay.
  • No company health insurance.
  • No PTO.
  • No sick leave.
  • No emergency leave.
  • No maternity/paternity leave.
  • No work-from-home stipend.
  • No company workshops or training.
  • Typical corporate problems: micromanagement, department heads disconnected from reality and their employees, unreasonable deadlines, etc.
Advice to Management

Express to your senior management and department heads that if you do not treat your contractors well, they will leave. You've already seen this to be true. Learn from your mistakes and do better by your employees. They are the ones making you money.
