tl;dr: BEWARE. Shady recruiter, poor communication, and no accountability with the company. Get everything in writing before you get started.
I was brought in for a Lead UI Engineer position. When I got the offer, it turned out there is no Lead UI Engineer position at Thumbtack, just Senior Engineer. I was duped by the recruiter.
I went through multiple rounds of communication over 3 weeks trying to sort it out with all levels of engineering management, but it ultimately led nowhere. The final offer was the same title and compensation without any sort of compensation for the debacle.
I can see that the recruiter who contacted me is still at Thumbtack, even when his dishonest practice was disclosed to all levels of their engineering org.
The engineering org itself felt like a good company. It's just a shame they have such shady hiring practices.
