Senior SDET Engineer Interview Experience - Monte Video, Uruguay

Process

The recruiter contacted me through LinkedIn, and we later spoke over the phone. Then, she asked someone else to schedule two consecutive interviews.

The interview questions were not difficult at all. I have over a decade of experience as a Test Engineer and have worked in most areas relating to testing. It was all about my past experience.

Interestingly, the interviewer did not ask me any questions like, "How would you test X, Y, or Z feature of TikTok?" considering TikTok is a different company. Such questions would have at least given me an opportunity to demonstrate knowledge I've learned from places other than my previous jobs.

Their coding question was extremely easy. It took me a couple of minutes to finish and provide the correct answer without needing any corrections. The interviewer didn't even realize I had given the right result and asked, "Where's your answer to the second test?" He didn't notice that the second answer was an empty string until I started to format it to indicate that.

What was super annoying was the feeling that they probably already had someone in mind before interviewing me. I felt I performed well in the interview. I had the interview late in the afternoon, and they sent me a rejection letter that same evening. Seriously? They are that efficient?

Especially given that I actually felt I did really well, this made no sense at all. I would have been more than happy not to prepare for the interview if they had told me beforehand.

Still, I asked the first recruiter and the second woman who scheduled my interview for feedback, as allowed by their company policy. Neither of them replied.

Even if they rejected me because they thought I was unqualified, a one-line letter thanking me for my time would have shown basic etiquette.

This is the worst interview experience in my 16 years of a tech career.
