SRE Engineer Interview Experience - Australia

Neutral ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The interview consisted of three rounds.

The first round was, I would describe, a LeetCode Easy. It wasn't even an algorithm question, just ensuring I could read text and write some code based on it.

The second round was an SRE technical round. There weren't really any difficult questions you would need to prepare for here.

The final round involved scenario-based questioning, an SQL-type question, and then we had about 15 minutes left for a systems design.

I asked my interviewers for feedback throughout the process, and it all seemed positive, so I really don't have a clue why I was rejected. There was no follow-up call back for feedback either.

Questions

The first round was just basically LeetCode easy.

As far as I remember, the second round covered:

  • What is SRE and what are its core principles?
  • What's the difference between DevOps and SRE?
  • What is an error budget?
  • How do you ensure high availability and reliability for a distributed system?

For the third round, I can remember a bit more:

  • Talk about a time where you had to deal with a huge problem in SRE.
  • An easy SQL question.
  • A system design question on designing the backend of a video-sharing application.
