Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Dublin, Ireland

Process

The interview consisted of a Skype call, which was supposed to last about 45 minutes. It was basically composed of two parts: an initial discussion of my previous role and the technology stack I used, followed by a pair programming exercise.

The engineer who interviewed me was very nice and knowledgeable. I enjoyed our conversation and the pair coding session. I believe I did quite well, and the interview actually exceeded the planned 45 minutes.

Unfortunately, at the end of the interview, the engineer told me that the role was for DevOps, not for software development. The job advertisement didn't make this clear, and the HR person never discussed the role with me, only sending an invitation for the Skype interview.

I politely declined to continue with the interviewing process, as I am a developer and do not wish to work as DevOps.

I am only rating the experience as negative because later on, I received an email from the HR person stating, "we will not be moving forward with the process." I didn't even receive an apology or any satisfactory explanation. After all, this was not my mistake, but his.
