Process

The hiring process had multiple steps with various people and goals. The recruiter was super helpful and provided all the necessary guides and documents to succeed. I do recommend reading these and preparing yourself in general, including for coding if applicable.

The interviews took place over two days for me. However, if I remember correctly, they usually try to conduct all interviews on the same day.

  1. Application review process.
  2. Half-hour interview with the recruiter/HR person.

The following steps will depend on the schedules of the interviewers. Therefore, the order can differ for each person and between teams you are applying for. Basically:

  1. An interview with the hiring manager.
  2. I had another interview with the Program Manager.
  3. and 6. Coding assessments, which for me were on HackerRank. Both were with different engineers from the team I was applying to. The coding was conducted during the interviews. It wasn't too complicated if you have some experience. One assessment was more about algorithms, the other about architecture and also included drawing a chart to describe an API and any components it is connected to.
  4. Bar Raiser – This interview is mainly for you to understand the company and its culture, and for them to get to know you as a person – your friendliness, helpfulness, etc. It is very much about your communication skills. The person interviewing me was not from the hiring team. They assess different values here, which are called the Twilio Magic Values. You can find these on the Twilio website by searching for them.
  5. Quick call with the recruiter/HR to also give your feedback on the interviews. You can also provide your input ahead of time for when they discuss your results, in case you feel some parts might not have gone well. I don't remember correctly, but I think there was a possibility to request to re-do a specific interview if you felt it went very badly or if there were communication problems with the interviewer.

Overall, even though the hiring process had numerous steps, it all happened quite fast, and the interviews were polished and well-structured. My interviews were on Monday and Tuesday, and by Friday, I had already received an offer, which I accepted.
