Pros: Good remuneration. That's about it.

Cons: It might have been a great company once upon a time, but right now it's just a shadow of its former self. Firstly, the period of rapid growth that was clearly not well-managed led to a situation where there are no clear roles and responsibilities. Decisions are made within random groups of people, with no one really taking accountability for them. This leads to requirements being defined only after things are done, based on some common understanding, resulting in constant, unreasonable changes and redoing work over and over again. Leadership justifies this by "working in an agile environment" or (more recently) "changing economic reality," contributing to a tremendous amount of frustration and burnout. Secondly, ever since the first round of layoffs in September 2022, followed by the second in February 2023 (despite management promising the first one was the one and only), amounting in total to just under a third of the workforce, followed by one restructuring after another and the exodus of the best people accompanying it, the atmosphere seems to have become only more and more toxic. Forget Twilio Magic; no one even seems to care anymore. That's a song of the past. The new agenda is pleasing shareholders and staying afloat in the "new economic reality." While the layoffs might have been necessary and will (hopefully) help the company achieve short-term profitability, for me, it's quite obvious that the long-term outlook is rather grim.

Pros: Stocks, business travels, snacks, free lunch.

Cons: There is no such thing as a work-life balance. Be ready to work as much as you are required to. Twilio is an international company, and nobody cares if it's already night on the other side of the ocean. Think twice on every word you say, as anything that can be interpreted as inappropriate language can and will be used against you during performance reviews or as an argument to put some pressure on you during any other work-related topic. Don't expect any cooperation between teams: people are reserved and try to avoid irritating authoritarian management by personal initiatives, since it leads to even more blaming. Overall, the atmosphere here resembles an army: there is always an artificially created lack of resources (unrealistic deadlines, missing conference rooms, poor equipment, etc.), a limitless understanding of the whole picture by common employees, and a punishing and oppressing way of motivating people to work. This seems to work for business, but it's a dubious deal for a regular employee.

Pros: Supportive colleagues, interesting projects, strong remote culture, and good benefits.

Cons: Frequent organizational changes, occasional management misalignment.
