Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience

June 1, 2013
Neutral ExperienceNo Offer

Process

The process started with a message from a recruiter asking if I was interested in the role. When I responded that I was, the recruiter asked for my availability to talk, which I provided. Then, I heard nothing for a week.

A new recruiter then emailed me, stating they had been given my contact information and wanted to know my availability. I provided new times. After not hearing back for another week, the recruiter responded with, "I must have missed your email!"

The first recruiter then sent a standard "Are you interested?" email again, even though I had already confirmed my interest.

Finally, I had my first phone interview with yet another recruiter. This person was thoughtful and pleasant to talk to but didn't know much about the position I was applying for.

A follow-up interview with a developer was scheduled, then canceled the day of.

I finally had my first technical interview with a developer. The developer was very helpful and answered all my questions. This interview included a live coding exercise.

A second technical interview occurred a week later, again with a developer. This interview was mostly a live coding exercise (because I took too long to answer a question) and had to be cut short. Again, the interviewer was very professional and happy to answer any questions.

In the end, I was not given an offer, which was expected due to my performance on the technical interviews.
