I applied online and received a response within a few days to set up an initial phone screen with the hiring manager.

During the phone interview, we both agreed that I might be a bit too junior for the role but should continue the conversation.

I was then scheduled for a second interview with a product manager. This interview was also non-technical. Towards the end, the interviewer mentioned that they were no longer considering me for the Lead role but for a less senior one.

I received no indication of this from the recruiter and discovered it only during the interview.

A few days later, I received a form rejection email regarding the Lead role. I followed up with the recruiter about the less senior role and waited a week with no response. After a second follow-up, the recruiter simply forwarded the original rejection email for the Lead role, seemingly without the inclination to provide a proper response.

For background, I had interviewed with Twilio twice in the past without an offer. Both times, I felt respected and received a personalized email explaining the circumstances, which seemed honest and caring.

This recent experience, however, felt completely disrespectful. I'm unsure what has happened to their recruiting team, as the experiences were night and day.

I assumed this was an anomaly, but it appears others have also had negative experiences with Twilio's hiring process recently.

Hopefully, they will improve their process. While I genuinely like the company, this experience has significantly altered my perception of it.
