Process

I applied to Uber through their career portal. Two weeks later, I received an email, and a recruiter scheduled a screening call. It was a boring talk, as if the recruiter was not interested in what they were doing. My first technical interview was scheduled weeks later.

A few days before the interview, I received an email from another recruiter informing me that the recruiter who had scheduled my interview would be out of office and thus asked me to suggest a rescheduled date. The interview was rescheduled.

On the interview date, I waited in the Zoom meeting, but no interviewer joined. I notified the recruiter via email and received no response that day. The next day, I received a response with an apology and a request to reschedule. The interview was rescheduled for the following week.

After the one-hour technical interview, I waited for more than a week to get an answer. I received no email. I emailed the recruiter asking about the decision, to which they replied that they would be moving forward with my application and asked me to wait while they connected me to another recruiter. Again, I waited for two weeks before I was connected to the interviewer. The onsite loop was scheduled.

There were four rounds in the onsite loop. The first one was behavioral, wherein I met the hiring manager and a staff engineer. They were nice and kind.

The second one was an in-depth technical interview (React), wherein a staff engineer interviewed me. It was an average interview experience.

The third interview was DS & Algo, which was pretty boring, as the interviewer was not at all interested and was so negative that if I suggested anything, they would get offended, thinking I was trying to prove them wrong.

The fourth interview was on system design, and it was pretty good.

I waited another week to get an answer, even though the recruiter had emailed me to expect a response in a day or two with the decision.

A week later, I got a call that they were not moving forward with my application. I accepted the decision but constantly begged for feedback. The recruiter did not share anything and tried to mislead me with stories on why they didn't have specific feedback to share.

Dear Uber, An average candidate spends at least a week preparing for your so-called "values" to clear behavioral questions and hours on the interview process. And you don't have even an hour to gather and share feedback with the candidate? Sometimes, it just appears that companies are using these "principles" and "values" to sugar-coat their real, cruel intentions.
