Software Developer Interview Experience - San Francisco, California

Process

I did well on the Code on the Road test. The subsequent 45-minute tech interview also went well enough to secure an onsite interview.

The first interviewer asked some background questions and presented a fairly basic system design question.

The second interviewer inquired about my best and worst projects. I can honestly say this was one of the best interviews I have ever had.

Immediately after the second interviewer left, someone informed me that I was not accepted. This was extremely embarrassing and a little infuriating.

I believe the first interviewer was put off by my inexperience in full-stack development, as I hadn't worked extensively with databases. I don't think they could have possibly taken the second interviewer's opinion into account, as it was delivered mere seconds after he departed.

One interviewer's opinion should not be sufficient to reject a candidate. To have traveled all this way and be turned away not even halfway through the interviews is very disappointing.

I was planning to leverage Uber's offer to increase my offer from Google, so it's not overly upsetting, but it would have been nice to have had that opportunity.
