Process

I applied online. The process took 4 months.

  • Contact with the recruiter: a very smooth conversation just to understand your level and knowledge superficially.
  • Online algorithm test: there are 4 questions, and you must get at least 3 right. The algorithms are LeetCode-style.
  • Algorithm interview (LeetCode) with an Uber developer: it is good to be well prepared in LeetCode, and they usually ask a medium to hard question. You must deliver functional code.
  • Interview loop of 4 rounds: 2 coding interviews in LeetCode style (same difficulty as the phone screen); 1 behavioral interview with an Engineering Manager; and 1 architecture interview to design a famous system from scratch.

Questions

LeetCode medium to hard. Generally, questions involve graphs, hashmaps, and/or arrays. The behavioral part is more standardized by HR, so it's a good idea to focus on the STAR method and go in with some prepared answers for common questions to avoid wasting too much time thinking of a response. Architecture is the most difficult part, so it's good to study this area thoroughly and practice with someone or an AI.
