Process

I was contacted by a recruiter via phone to discuss my interests in Uber and why I wanted to leave my current job. I was given the choice between a phone screening technical interview or an on-site visit, as I was local to the area. I chose the on-site option.

After passing the preliminary screening, I was invited for the full on-site interview. Since I was interviewing for the Map Store team, I was told beforehand to focus on graphs, trees, arrays, and linked lists.

The questions were quite difficult and tricky to solve within the given time frame. There was an expectation to write code in CodePair after whiteboarding the solution, which I was unable to do for two of the interviews. However, the interviewers were very nice and helped me through many of the parts where I got stuck, so I had a somewhat complete whiteboarded solution for all the interviews.

I struggled significantly during the system design interview due to my lack of experience with distributed systems, but the interviewer took this into account. While I did not pass the interview, the recruiter and interviewers I met are some of the nicest people in tech I've had the pleasure of speaking with. They seemed extremely passionate about their work, and my experience interviewing at the Colorado office has been nothing but positive.
