Pros
  • Brilliant coworkers
  • Working together with teams in the US, Ireland, and Turkey
  • OK-ish culture and side benefits
Cons

(For Turkey)

  • Compensation is NOT good at all! The company is growing very fast, their income is in USD, but salaries are in TRY. There are many other companies paying much more than Udemy.
  • It is very hard to understand what management is doing. The last promotion cycle was terrible; people are very angry with promotions and effectively zero percent salary increases because of TRY currency rates. Resignations are coming.
  • The team is overqualified for its tasks. They take the best engineers, but most of these brilliant people are working on maintaining a legacy codebase. There are very few exciting engineering tasks to work on.

(General)

  • Turnover rate is high and increasing. People find better salaries outside and leave.
  • Most of the employees are newcomers. The codebase is unknown to most of the team.
  • Long and frequent meetings.
Advice to Management

(For Turkey) Pay salaries in USD! It is not fair to be paid (around) one sixth of an Udemy employee working in the US. We're working hard and achieving great things. Give us what we deserve!
