I worked on really cool tech.
The values lived on the team level are absolutely aligned with my personal values (in it together + focus on arriving at the best idea for impact on users).
There are some wickedly smart people with deep knowledge.
There's name recognition and community goodwill (until an unforced error regarding the runtime fee - a bad idea, awful execution).
Severance was generous.
Base pay was fairly low, so with underperforming stock, the total compensation wasn't great (though being part of an amazing team was worth a lot to me).
With going public, they also went corporate, and the values are better lived out at the team level than in leadership (though I have hopes for the new CEO, Jim Whitehurst - fingers crossed).
There was little job security with the bonkers amount of layoffs (not just percentage but number of rounds). They weren't performance-based, so if you were on a project that got chopped, you were most likely out unless you could find a different role internally. I survived many cuts until our project got hit.
Don't go public? Oh wait... too late. :/
The interview process was thoughtful and engaging. The design question and home application task, covering both backend and frontend, were well-structured, challenging, and provided a great way to showcase real-world skills.
It was a friendly chat with HR, where we discussed my experiences and skills. It was a video call where we discussed the responsibilities of the role and how my skills would align with it. There weren't any technical questions in this interview.
I had an intro interview, then two technical interviews. The first one was system design, and the second was building an app end-to-end that had the ability to auction.
