I highly recommend starting as a contractor, as it seems most employee roles are hired from that pool. After four months, I was hired. By that time, I knew the players, so it was informal.

Pros: Benefits: some groups allow work-from-home, ability to move within the company to different roles.
Cons: Dealing with contracts, the software systems are extremely antiquated, which makes my job difficult. Your experience is very dependent on your group and your specific manager. I have not enjoyed my time in my specific group, as we were given a Sr. Manager who has no clue what her team does and doesn't care to learn.
