Process

I attended the on-campus interview session in college. There were 5 rounds.

  1. First round - There was a written round that consisted of Basic C/C++ and Data structure questions and another round of aptitude. A quick Google search of these terms will lead to any interview prep website that will be useful. They selected the top ~20% from this round.

  2. Second round - This was a group discussion round. They mostly wanted to see whether people can converse professionally and are not too introverted or have issues in communication. Some people never spoke and were disqualified from this round.

  3. Third & Fourth round - These were held in quick succession of each other. The first of the two rounds was a technical interview. I was asked some basic questions about my resume, explaining about what I did and what I am planning to do. They ask you which language is most familiar to you? I answered Java and was asked questions on it. Nothing too difficult if you have used Java, e.g. Interfaces, Classes, implementing Data structures in Java, a few questions about built-in types. The fourth round was more of a stress interview. I was given situations that had no correct answer and the important thing to remember here is to give confident, clear answers and never to contradict yourself. Be clear, concise and to the point and support your answers with some logic. It shouldn't be harder than the technical round.

  4. Final Round - This was a group HR round where I was interviewed by the 3 main recruiters who had given the info session before the first round. They asked questions like "Why Verizon", "Tell us about your strengths and weaknesses", "Where do you see yourself in three years' time?" etc. Just convince them that you want the job without sounding too desperate. If you have come till this round, there is a 95% chance you have already got the job. About 20 people did come to this round but only 16 got the job. 2 of them declined the job offer (for some weird reason) and 2 of them said something wrong or contradictory and the recruiters found out they were lying about something or the other. Mostly, everyone who comes till this round gets it.

Two weeks later, I got an email saying I had got the job offer should I choose to accept it. However, I had written GRE at the time and was also planning to do MS. I declined the offer and went for higher studies.
