It wasn't a recruiter who contacted me; someone on the Data Science team reached out directly. The title of the position is "Data Engineer", but the interviewer kept asking data science questions that have nothing to do with database design or ETL pipelines. I have a degree in statistics, so I was able to answer a lot of them. I was very confused – not sure if they are hiring someone to help build the data infra or build statistical models. Those are very different job functions.

The one thing they did ask that's relevant to data engineering is hashmaps. Just make sure you know the basics of Big O notation.
