The recruiter was friendly on the phone; however, they were not fully informed about the interview process for that particular team. The recruiter also told me a salary range that was lower than what they told my male colleague, who was also interviewing for the same position.
I was told that the first interview would be a 45-minute conversation with the hiring manager of the team. I specifically asked if there was going to be a coding portion to this round, and I was told no, it was just a conversation. However, the interview ended up being partially a code challenge.
It was 25 minutes of talk and 30 minutes for the coding. The interviewer left a few minutes at the end for me to ask questions.
The code challenge was very relevant to the work and pretty simple. However, the surprise element of it threw me off.
I did not move forward to the next round of interviews; however, the recruiter called me to give me feedback and also apologized for not being able to properly prep me for the initial interview.
Overall, the experience wasn’t bad, but I’m confused as to why I was given a lower salary range for the role.
