Java Software Engineer Interview Experience - Austin, Texas

Process

The interviewer was very unprofessional for the following reasons:

  • After we started the interview, he asked me to pull up a Java IDE and start coding an algorithm "reverse a string in Java." Knowing that my experience is with NodeJS and JavaScript, I asked if I could do it using JavaScript instead of Java. He said, "No, no, I want it to be in Java!"
  • Before I started coding, I explained my approaches for two possible solutions that I came up with, including their time complexities. He didn't sound interested and responded, "Okay, write the full code and show me that it works!"
  • Before I finished writing the algorithm, he interrupted me, saying, "Okay, thanks for your time. We'll get back to you!"

This is by far the worst interview process I've had. I'm definitely not interested in working with such people.
